Somebody once wrote me, asking, “There are always a large amount of teachers and students of A Course in Miracles out there, but there must be something which you’ve hooked into, or caught onto? Something that triggered a transformation or even a major healing. So, what was it?”
“Trust,” I said.
Think about your lifetime as it is apparently nowadays in terms of the story. How do we answer the question; “Who do I trust? Where do I believe my safety lies? How will I be sustained? Who’s my source?” So whenever we speak about the past stage to the awakening being pure trust, it’s simply about disengaging and withdrawing our faith and rely upon all of these made-up concepts, beliefs and ideas in the world. It’s similar to creating a big house of cards, stacking on a single card after the other. A good wind arrives and poof, it’s only blown over. It can’t even acim authors stand a little gust of wind. It’s so frail. It’s so temporary. It’s so transitory; It absolutely was this sense of placing rely upon the Spirit and withdrawing rely upon anything else; those issues that were identified and learned as worldly accomplishments. Why should we rely upon those? Have they ever brought us lasting peace and happiness? Are they really trustworthy? It surely comes right down to the essence of who’s my cousin? Can it be Spirit or matter? Can it be Spirit or form? Furthermore how many of us have tried trusting people? Has anybody tried this one?So you are asking the question, “If someone dies or is apparently dying of starvation, what does that say about their mind?” Where all this is heading is always to the awareness that everything is mental. What this awakening will reveal is that everything is mental and that everything is just a hallucination. That is a world of ideas and what we call manifest reality, isn’t reality at all. There’s no distinction between thought and form. Jesus has to create his whole workbook in A Course In Miracles on making the bond between thought and form. His lessons start out with, “Nothing I see means anything,” (W-1) and, “I have given everything I see all the meaning it has for me.” (W-2) Then, He works his way up to number four, “These thoughts don’t mean anything&rdquo ;.Now, He’s referring to thoughts. First He’s referring to perception, then about our thoughts, then He comes back with lessons 5,6,7,8,9 … perception, perception, perception, perception, perception … and then number 10, “My thoughts don’t mean anything.” You can see he’s trying to melt everything together and show the past veil or stage of awakening, that will be trust.
The Holy Spirit uses time to teach us there is no such thing as time, to take us back to that particular timeless moment that is the gateway to eternity. He uses symbols to teach us that they are all illusions and that they are all equally meaningless. That’s exactly the method of operation of Holy Spirit. The Spirit has to utilize the mind to loosen the attachments from the investment in all sorts of things. What kind of things would you invest in, nowadays?
